Issue :
When starting a Notes client 8.5 and up with Dekstop Manager 2.7 and up, you might encounter the following error message :
"HomePageFirstLaunch has encountered as error"
This is a known issue, IBM has reported this problem into the SPR number #ACGB886NRR
Workaround :
To pass-by this error, please enable the following User Preferences feature :
"On restart, reopen any tabs that were open when I closed the client" > please, see attachment
Our R&D team is currently investigating to find a permanent solution.

From the IBM page related to this SPR, we can read that this issue has been solved for the Notes Release** 8.5.2 FP2** & 8.5.3 :
